A DENBIGH dartist has scooped a Welsh title.

Clwyd County ace Dave Davies has become a Welsh champion as he took the title in the Atherton Botanical Gardens, Manchester.

Flying high at the top of the North Wales Amateur Darts Circuit (ADC) rankings due to competition wins at Penyffordd and Rhyl, and collecting more points at various other events locally, Davies was given the opportunity to play for the title which had been vacated by Jim Williams, who had acquired his PDC tour card at the start of the year.

Davies was pitted against South Walian Rob ‘Stack attack’ Owen, a player of some pedigree with PDC experience and a former UK open semi-finalist.

He also has several strong showings on the popular Modus online live league of late.

However, he was no match for Denbigh’s Davies who proceeded to blitz his way to the Welsh championship title belt with an 8-1 mauling and an impressive 93 average, with four 180s and a 13-darter amongst his winning legs.

Davies will now await challengers for his ADC Welsh national belt with a number of potential great games on the horizon.

Meanwhile, the brilliant Britannia are top of the Denbigh and District A-League after another fine victory.

They lead the top division by one point from Wings A after a big 8-1 verdict over the winless Railway B.

Youngster Bradley Roberts continued his fine form with a great 16-dart leg as the Brit placed themselves as favourites for the league.

Golden Lion B got their title efforts back on track with a 7-2 result over Golden Lion A, with captain Rich Martin hitting a maximum 180.

The Masons edged out the Railway A 5-4 with plenty of quality darts on show from both sides.

Masons’ Pete Lewis and Steve Gierke struck a 180 apiece, with Lewis producing a 17-darter in his game, whilst the Railway’s Carl Jones also hit a maximum.
