A WOMAN who sustained life-changing injuries after she was hit by a car in Prestatyn has thanked those who have offered her messages of support and pledged to “make good of what I’ve got”.

Vania Tong, 53, suffered a serious spinal injury after being struck by a car on the A547 in the village of Meliden on Sunday, June 19.

Vania, a teacher at Prestatyn High School, was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where it was later discovered she had had suffered severe damage to her spinal cord, meaning she is unlikely to walk again.

Speaking from her hospital bed, she said in a video: “As Bilbo Baggins said, stepping out of your door can be a very dangerous business.

“But I’m OK, I’m here. Thank you so much for all your love and your wishes; it's really made me feel strong.

“I’m going to make good of what I’ve got, and I will hopefully see everybody on the other side.

“I’ve got bedrests for six weeks, and then some physiotherapy to do at Oswestry, and then I think they’re going to help me be as independent as I can be.”

A fundraising page set up by Vania's daughter, Agnes, in aid of her "beautiful, caring mum", has raised more than £9,000.

You can donate yourself by visiting: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/agnes-tong.

This will also help the family cover travel and accommodation costs during Vania's recovery.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, her family will only be able to visit her for an hour a day.

Police have also urged anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch by calling 101 or via their website, quoting reference B088996.
