A MAN from the St Asaph area has been charged after being arrested on suspicion of sexual offences and breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

This followed a report by members of the public that young children had been attending his address.

The man, 66, was charged with a number of offences, and appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court yesterday (June 23).

He is to be remanded in custody at HMP Berwyn, Wrexham until a further hearing at Mold Crown Court on July 22.

In a statement, NWP (North Wales Police) Conwy and Denbigh Rural added: “There are no wider risks to the local community.”

Police also urged people not to speculate or comment on the case on social media.

A spokesperson added: "As proceedings are now active, please read the following carefully if you are considering making a comment to our post.

“Any material which could influence members of the jury in an ongoing or imminent trial is deemed as being in contempt of court and is punishable in a court of law. These comments could include:

• “References to someone’s previous convictions,

• “Statements about a person’s character,

• “Evidence seeming to link a person directly to the crime of which they have been accused,

• “Other suggestions that the person is guilty.

“When proceedings are ‘active’, the above content cannot be posted and the Facebook user is in contempt of court.

“Proceedings are ‘active’ when: a person is charged, a person has been arrested, an arrest warrant is issued, and a summons is issued.”
