A NORTH Wales business is now home to eight ultra-rapid electric vehicle chargers.

As drivers prepare for a summer of staycations, EV charge point network InstaVolt has opened its latest ultra-rapid EV charging hub at Rhug Estate on the A5 to commuters, holidaymakers and residents.

The site, which features eight, ultra-rapid 120kW InstaVolt chargers, is located at the Rhug Estate farm shop car park, situated on the A5 three miles west of Corwen. With amenities such as Café Rhug and an on-site farm shop, the charging site offers a prime place for drivers to top up.

While the site will no doubt be used by holidaymakers due to its prominent location on the A5, the installation of the chargers is responding to demand in the local area. As reported in April 2022 by the Department for Transport, Denbighshire has an exceptionally low ratio of EV charging devices to its population and the additional eight chargers will provide a solution to this.

Adrian Keen, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “As electric vehicle usage continues to rise, there is a significant desire for rapid charging points across Wales, to address the regional disparities that exist within the EV charging network.

"Our work with the Rhug Estate fills an urgent geographical need for rapid EV charging, and we’re pleased to expand our footprint in the region with our first InstaVolt hub in Wales.

“We are excited to launch this site in time for summer travel, as well as providing a service to commuters and local drivers who frequently visit the area. Bringing our rapid, reliable charge points to this established and prominent site will encourage EV users to make the most of their vehicles this summer - and beyond - and will hopefully inspire road users who are considering making the switch, to do so with confidence.”

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate said: “It is great to be going live with our car charging points by InstaVolt, we have been asked by customers every day when they will be live so there has been a great deal of anticipation around the opening! Rhug is the gateway to Snowdonia and the West coast of Wales, so it is a natural stopping off point to recharge your car and enjoy a nice break in the farm shop and café here.”

“We are pleased to be working with the team at InstaVolt and grateful to the Welsh Government and Scottish Power Energy Networks for their parts in providing this important infrastructure for the benefit of our community and the public travelling through north Wales.

"Electric vehicles are a growing part of what we are doing at Rhug and this electric vehicle charging project plays a big part in enabling us and our customers to achieve net zero carbon emissions.”
