A WOMAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in a village in Prestatyn yesterday afternoon (June 19).

This was on Ffordd Talargoch, Meliden, with North Wales Police (NWP) first receiving reports of the incident “involving a car and a pedestrian” at 6.15pm.

The woman was airlifted to the Royal Stoke University Hospital at roughly 7.30pm, arriving half an hour later.

Representatives from NWP, the Welsh Ambulance Service, the Wales Air Ambulance, and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.

NWP has urged anyone with further information regarding the crash to contact them.

An eyewitness, Gerry Frobisher, former mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden, said: “At about 6.30pm, the centre of Meliden was cordoned off by police following what I think was a pedestrian accident.

“A fire tender and ambulance were there. Six police cars were blocking off the A547 at top of Ffordd Tynewydd, on top of The Grove, and four at the top of A547.

“An air ambulance attended and landed on the football pitch by Ysgol Melyd.”

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.11pm to Ffordd Talargoch, Meliden to a road traffic collision.

“Crews stabilised a vehicle to help release a female casualty. The call came in from the Ambulance Service.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called yesterday (June 19) at 6.05pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Ffordd Talargoch, Prestatyn.

“We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance.

“One person was transported by air to the Royal Stoke Hospital for further treatment.”

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “I can confirm that the Wales Air Ambulance Charity attended an incident in the Prestatyn area yesterday (June 19).

“We were mobile at 6.30pm and arrived on scene at 6.50pm.

“Following treatment from our on-board medics, we airlifted the patient to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, leaving the scene at 7.31pm and arriving at the hospital at 8.01pm.

“Our involvement concluded at 8.30pm.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson added: “We were called at 6.15pm yesterday (June 19) to reports of a road traffic collision on Ffordd Talargoch, Meliden, Prestatyn, involving a car and a pedestrian.

“As a result, the road was closed from the junction with Ffordd Tynewydd to the junction with Ffordd Tanrallt.

“Officers attended, along with colleagues from the Welsh Ambulance Service, the Wales Air Ambulance and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

“A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The road reopened shortly after 8pm yesterday.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to get in touch on 101 or via the website, quoting reference B088996.”
