A WOMAN who got engaged at a North Wales railway site last week says she is now planning on getting married there.

The picture of Josh Taylor-Smith, 34, popping the question to girlfriend Becky Cook, 27, was posted to the Llangollen Railway page on Thursday, June 2.

Now the couple - who have been together eight years and have two children together - are planning on returning to the railway for the big day itself, as the place holds a significant meaning to them.

Becky, who is originally from the Wirral but now lives in Cambridge with Josh, used to spend her summers with family at Llangollen Railway.

And the love for the venue - which struggled greatly through the Covid-19 pandemic but is now slowly bouncing back - is something that has now been passed down to the next generation.

Becky said: "Our eldest son Chester, who is six, is absolutely obssessed with trains and so we both love it because he does.

"I've been going to Llangollen Railway since I was a baby, we used to come here every summer as a family and I loved the Thomas the Tank Engine visits, which are no longer taking place sadly.

"The railway really means something to the whole family and we're now planning to finish where we started by getting married there."

Becky says she hopes the couple can get married at the venue 'around August next year' with planning set to get underway.

Talking about getting engaged, she added: "It was a real surprise and a relief, although I have been nagging Josh about it for a while as we've been together for eight years and have two children!

"He got away with it slightly as well, as it was only really a few conductors on the platform at the time he got down one knee - everyone else had boarded the train."

A spokesperson for Llangollen Railway said that it was 'a lovely start to the Platinum Jubilee weekend celerbations' and congratulated the couple.
