A TESCO community champion in Abergele has donated the sum of £1,500 to three Abergele schools as part of a book donation and fundraising scheme.

Jan Williams, the company’s community champion in Abergele, raised the money through an initiative in their store, in which customers bring in their old books, which are then re-sold on a book stall in the shop.

The money raised from these sales usually goes to their designated charities, but decided this time to donate £500 to each school in order for them to buy new books for their pupils.

Ms Williams visited the three Abergele schools, Ysgol Glan Morfa, Ysgol Glan Gele and Ysgol Sant Elfod, to present them with the donation.

“Along with my colleagues, I decided ‘how about old books for new books’ for our local schools,” said Ms Williams.

“Thank you so much to the local community and all of our customers who donated books and also bought them, the schools were so happy.”
