IF YOU love nothing more a refreshing bite to eat or hot drink with a good book, in a place which won’t turn its nose up at you being accompanied by your pooch, a café in Llandudno has a treat for you.

Established eight years ago by owner Rhian Hastings, Coffee V, on Mostyn Avenue in Craig-y-Don, caters for all of the above, with heaving bookshelves and a dog-friendly policy.

With a variety of sweet and savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks to enjoy, the café also pledges to tailor your coffee to exactly how you like it.

Rhian said: “We’re a dog-friendly establishment, offering water, treats and ice cream to our four-legged customers.

“It was something that customers would ask about, and we’ve found that dog owners are very courteous and everywhere is cleaned afterwards, so we’ve never had any problem with them.

“We won’t tell you how to drink your coffee; you tell us how you want it, and we’ll make it that way.

“A lot of our customers are elderly; they don’t necessarily want a particularly strong coffee, so they tell us how they want it, and we do it for them.

“We’ve got six bookcases, and we use the windowsill, as well. If customers want a book, they just leave a small donation to one of our local charities, and we divide that among them.”

These charities include St David’s Hospice and the Welsh Air Ambulance, with the Coffee V team having also taken on various fundraisers in the past, such as climbing Snowdonia and hosting coffee afternoons, and bingo nights.

And they support not only North Wales charities, but businesses, too.

Rhian added: “We just run on the fact that we use local suppliers. Our coffee, Poblado Coffi, is roasted in Snowdonia, and our cakes are baked by a number of local bakers.

“Tables, or the coffee shop, are also available to be reserved for catch ups with friends and family and celebrations.”

Though, her proudest moment in business, Rhian added, was overcoming the tribulations of lockdowns, which opened her eyes further to “how valued our little coffee shop is”.

She said: “Being recognised as a community base for locals and regulars, and seeing the reactions to us re-opening after the lockdowns, definitely made me appreciate how valued our little coffee shop is by so many locals and regulars, who have become such good friends.”
