WORK has begun on laying the foundations for new apartments and commercial space in Prestatyn.

Demolition work at the site of the town’s former library, on Nant Hall Road, was completed last month.

The site will now be redeveloped to create new commercial space and apartments available for social rent.

The Denbighshire Housing development, which has been named “Llys Llên” to celebrate the site’s previous use as a library, will provide energy-efficient apartments designed for older persons including those with limited mobility.

It is hoped that the development will be completed by next spring.

A Denbighshire County Council spokesperson said: “Demolition of the former library building was completed at the end of March and work has now started on laying the foundations for the new development.

“The new apartments are expected to be ready for occupation in spring 2023 and will be accessible apartments for older persons for social rent available through the Single Access Route to Housing social housing register.”

Energy in the apartments will be generated by ground source heat pumps and solar panels on the roof to create improved energy efficient living for future residents.

Wynne & Sons Limited Construction, who has worked with the council on previous construction schemes, has been awarded the development contract.
