A FUNDRAISER day for Ukraine which took place in Bodelwyddan last weekend raised thousands of pounds to aid those suffering in the country.

The “Support Day for Ukraine” took place at the Bodelwyddan Village Hall community centre and on its surrounding fields on Saturday, April 9.

It offered refreshments such as Ukrainian stew and hot dogs, the chance to learn traditional Ukrainian dances, the Côr Meibion Colwyn male voice choir, a magic act, and raffles.

There were also cake and craft stalls for people to enjoy, as well as music acts, face painting, a rapping vicar, and much more.

All of the money raised was to be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Katie Jones, who assisted main organiser Kathy Meadows with arranging the Support Day for Ukraine, said: “It was absolutely amazing; it was so busy, and the weather was brilliant.

“I was doing the children’s craft area and activities, which was good, and the tombola went down well. It was a team effort; I was just a small part of it (Jo, Viv, Leann, Gill, Kathy, Matt, Cat and Raj were also thanked by Katie for their involvement).

“All of the stage acts were brilliant. We had the male voice choir open the whole thing, then a magician who was absolutely amazing, the rapping vicar, Ukrainian dancing, singers and bagpipers.

“The Ukrainian hotpot went down really well – Jo made about eight slow cookers’ worth of that!

“Everybody in the community, and people from further afield, came out and spent their money; it was so good.”
