A PRESTATYN school is launching an anti-discrimination campaign called ‘It stops with me’.

Prestatyn High School aim to highlight their commitment to tackling all forms of discrimination, which has included a full review of their procedures for dealing with cases of it.

A new ‘Social Responsibility’ curriculum has been launched among Key Stage 3 students, that addresses elements of being a responsible citizen in our community, amongst other key issues.

A focus group of students have been working with staff over the last six months to lead a campaign, which aims to celebrate diversity and culture.

This group meet weekly with a local youth worker to plan, prepare and support the school in ensuring that the campaign is relevant, appropriate and supports the students and school community.

A statement from the student focus group said: “As a group, we want a completely non-racist school and a community that does not discriminate.

“This is something we can work to build over time.

“We want to minimise the discriminatory behaviour and language that is sometimes used.

“We want to help educate and inform all members of our school and community to help celebrate diversity.

“We believe it is extremely important to appreciate diversity and create an atmosphere of support in the school and community where prejudice is challenged.”

As part of their anti-discrimination drive, Prestatyn High School will also be hosting a Festival of Diversity and Culture, with learners engaging in a range of different activities: Welsh - Culture Challenge, Religious Studies - Rangoli patterns, French - Multicultural celebration, and Food Tech - Multicultural foods from around the world, amongst other activities that will celebrate the diverse community of Prestatyn.
