A FUNDRAISER event encouraging people to “Move a Marathon” will take place in June in memory of a teenager who was tragically killed in a road accident 18 months ago.

Ethan Ross died aged 17 following a crash on the A55 near St Asaph in September 2020, sadly passing away two days after the incident having been airlifted to a hospital in Stoke.

And following the success of last summer’s fundraiser in Ethan’s memory, his mother Helen and father Paul have organised the same event again this year between June 17-19, as they aim to raise £10,000.

Proceeds will be going to the Wales Air Ambulance and 2Wish, a charity who helps those affected by the death of a young person.

Participants will complete 26.2 miles (the equivalent of a marathon) of activity throughout the weekend, while members of Ethan’s family, including Paul and his brother Callum, will be running a full marathon on Sunday, June 19.

Meanwhile, on June 17, a number of schools from Llangollen, Denbigh, St Asaph and Prestatyn will be taking part in “Wearing Blue for Ethan” and holding a fundraising day in their schools.

Ethan was a pupil at Denbigh High School, studying maths and physics at A-Level, worked as a waiter at Bodelwyddan Castle Hotel, and was part of the development squad at Denbigh Town Football Club.

Writing on the JustGiving page receiving donations for the event, Helen wrote: “He (Ethan) was selfless, kind, caring, determined, quiet and gifted, with huge competitive nature.

“Ethan had great aspirations and desires. He wanted to travel the world. Ethan was so organised and had his life mapped out.

“Ethan loved to sing, and would bellow out the Greatest Showman’s 'Never Enough' at the top of his voice. Ethan loved science and space and had a huge passion about stars and the universe.

“Over the weekend of June 17-19, you can help raise funds for this worthwhile cause by completing 26.2 miles of any activity you enjoy.

“You can get friends and family to join you in as many activities as you want and break your ‘marathon’ into as many sessions as you need.

“Once your 26.2 miles is complete, you’ve moved your own marathon!

“Ethan’s dad Paul, his brother Callum and hopefully myself will take the tougher route by running a full marathon on Sunday, June 19 and we would like to invite as many people as possible to join in and support us along the way.”

Sign-up for the event costs £15 and includes a t-shirt and a medal. Instructions on how to sign up are available at: www.facebook.com/groups/377485020592207/posts/498278811846160.
