PERCHED in the picturesque setting between the foothills of the Snowdonia mountains and the Menai Strait is Aber Falls Whisky Distillery which, since opening in 2017, has received remarkable feedback in the on- and off-trade, won a raft of prestigious awards for its whiskies, gins and liqueurs, and achieved national and international distribution.

The team mils and distils its whisky in North Wales using 100 per cent Welsh malted barley and rock-filtered water from the Aber Falls waterfall.

It's also aged in the distillery's warehouses before being bottled on-site.

Lliwen Griffith, operations manager at Aber Falls, said: "It’s difficult to pinpoint just one memory or occasion that I’m most proud of, as there have been so many exciting events and launches since I joined Aber Falls.

“One memorable occasion was going to London for St David’s Day for ‘Welsh Week’ in London, to showcase our Welsh products in the capital of the country.

“We showcased the Aber Falls Small Batch gin, and it received great feedback from attendees across the day.”

Other notable highlights of late include the 2021 opening of Aber Falls’ visitor centre, located adjacent to the Afon Rhaeadr, and featuring a bistro and state-of-the-art ‘Gin Lab’, welcoming up to six guests to create and bottle their gin to take home.

The visitor centre also hosts interactive distillery tours, while Aber Falls has also recently opened the doors to its new Welsh Farmer's Market.

Funded by the Coastal Communities Fund, the Aber Falls Market provides business with a regular platform to show off their products, from food and drink to arts and crafts.

Lliwen added: “From opening the new visitor centre, Gin Lab and Farmer’s Market, to launching a new whisky line, there’s never a dull day.

“Another standout moment was the launch of the Inaugural release (in May 2021, its first 100 per cent Welsh single malt whisky).

“Incredibly, we sold 2,000 bottles in just 40 minutes, which demonstrates the outstanding quality of our liquid and the excitement and support from our customers.

“I also was able to present a bottle of the Inaugural release to my grandad, who was a key part in me becoming a part of the Aber Falls team - a really great memory for me, both professionally and personally."
