RHUDDLAN residents have planted a tree in memory of Captain Tom Moore a year after his passing.

Residents were keen to do something to commemorate Captain Tom, who raised roughly £38million for the NHS in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic by walking laps of his garden, and inspired so many others to do the same.

Captain Tom, of Bedfordshire, passed away in early February 2021 at the age of 100 with COVID-19.

Captain Tom’s family have honoured his love of nature by planting trees in his memory, so Rhuddlan residents were keen to do the same.

Rhuddlan County Councillor, Ann Davies, said: “This week marked a year since Captain Tom passed away at the age of 100, so it seemed appropriate timing to plant the tree.

“I would like to thank Denbighshire Countryside Service for providing the cherry tree.

“I am sure Rhuddlan residents will enjoy watching the tree grow over many years to come."
