A PRESTATYN councillor has shared a photograph of the time he met the Queen after she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee on Sunday (February 6).

Cllr Gerry Frobisher MBE (Meliden ward), who has served as mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden three times, met Queen Elizabeth II at Venue Cymru in Llandudno in April 2010.

Representing Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council, Gerry enjoyed a “short conversation” with her.

Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years on the throne on February 6.

Cllr Frobisher said: “I met the Queen in April 2010 when I was working with Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) as the youth volunteering officer.

“It was at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, and it was a showcasing event publicising the six voluntary councils in North Wales and a variety of invited voluntary organisations from North Wales.

“We chatted mainly about what I did with DVSC and the benefits on offer in North Wales for young people to volunteer.

“The Queen is the figurehead of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth; it was such an honour to have been able to meet her and to have the opportunity to hold a short conversation with her.”

Cllr Frobisher also shared pictures of his meeting with the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles in July 2012, who visited St Asaph Cathedral as part of a tour of North Wales.

Cllr Frobisher was attending as a representative of North Wales Young Dragons, an all-Wales umbrella group working with and supporting the uniformed youth groups (Army Cadets, Sea Cadets, Air, Cadets, Fire Cadets, Police Cadets, Scouts, Guides, St John Cadets, and the Boys and Girls Clubs).

He said: “I met The Duchess of Cornwall (together with Prince Charles) on their North Wales tour in July 2012 when they visited St Asaph Cathedral.

“As the North Wales Young Dragons co-ordinator, I had been requested by Prince Charles’ team to organise representatives from local uniformed youth groups and an information section about Young Dragons.

“We chatted about what Young Dragons was all about, and I was able to introduce both the Prince and The Duchess to the young people representing their respective groups.

“The Duchess was very interested in the work I was doing with Young Dragons, and she asked several questions about the uniformed youth groups and other opportunities for young people in the area.”
