KINMEL Bay welcomed Glantraeth to Y Morfa for a thrilling Intermediate Challenge Cup encounter that would be decided on penalties.

The home side got off to a good start with a lot of possession and were rewarded with a tap in from Matty Marsh-Evans after 17-year-old Tom Wickerson’s cross was fumbled by the keeper.

Bay continued to dominate possession but Glantraeth snatched a goal against the run of play after 33 minutes with a lovely goal from Tudur Williams, who picked up the ball in the centre of the pitch and placed it over the top of the keeper.

The play evened out as both teams carried on pushing for a goal and it was Glantraeth who got a second through Paul Bryant. A shot outside the box was going well wide until but Bryant was there to head it into the far corner.

Glantraeth had their tails up and wanted a third goal, putting plenty of pressure on the Bay defence, but the hosts stood firm and in the 87th minute managed to break out on the counterattack. Ry Hulse played a curving through ball around the back of Glantraeth defence for Euan Taylor, who turned one player and evaded a tackle from another before slotting in the bottom corner.

Bay started to put pressure on Glantraeth and with both teams looking for a winner it could have go e either way. After extra time the score remained at 2-2 and to penalties it went.

Glantraeth would win 4-3 after brilliant game that was played in good spirit by both teams.
