FOR the eighth consecutive year, Friends of Prestatyn Railway Station have put up a Christmas tree in the station booking office to cheer rail passengers as they start their journeys.

This year, committee members Carol Holliday, Maureen Roberts and Sherry Edwards had the task of erecting the tree, testing and unravelling the lights and finding the baubles – which they did with good humour, and a little help from Nick in the booking office.

The School Council from Ysgol Penmorfa in Prestatyn – Holly Clewett, Ashley Stewart, Frankie Moore, Olivia Jones, Harper Pegg, Eva Kelly and Georgia Goss – were accompanied by class teacher Gill German, and Sarah Cerazo came along to put up the decorations made by children in the Reception class.

Nick thanked everyone for helping to make the booking office look so festive.

This has been a busy year at the station, and Friends of Prestatyn Railway Station have worked hard to ensure it and its surrounding area looks its best.

Their hard work has been rewarded by gaining Level Five (outstanding) in the Wales in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ competition again, and having the sculpture of a rambler erected on the disused platform.

They are presently holding a public consultation at the library, giving Prestatyn residents the opportunity to select a design from the entries received for a mural on the road bridge underpass.

Chairman Ian Lifford said: “The past few years have been difficult for everyone, and we hope that our work at the station has helped to cheer up both residents and rail passengers.”
