AN ABERGELE eyebrow specialist is celebrating after receiving her first award with just three years in the industry under her belt.

Lorna Roythorne-Du Ross, owner of the Abergele-based RDR Microblading, won gold at this year’s British Hair and Beauty Awards for ‘microblading expert of the year’, and recently received her trophy to recognise the achievement.

Lorna, 27, set up RDR Microblading just three years ago, her first venture into the industry, and was also shortlisted as a finalist in last year’s Welsh Hair and Beauty Awards for ‘semi-permanent makeup specialist of the year’.

That awards ceremony was postponed in May 2020 due to COVID-19, and will instead take place this weekend in Cardiff.

Lorna said: “For the British one, we were nominated first and then we got down to being shortlisted and then finalists. It was quite a process.

“It is obviously based on your skills in microblading, what your reputation is like in the industry, what client feedback has been. A lot it has been client testimonials; it did not all come from me.

“You get a certificate and a trophy, and obviously the title – I can’t complain; it is the first one I’ve won!

“I am a finalist again this year for the same award (Welsh Hair and Beauty Awards). I am the only one from North Wales, which is exciting.

“When I won the British one, I was super happy and surprised; even just when I was nominated, I was shocked, so it was an honour, because it comes from clients, so it is huge.

“It is what the people whose eyebrows I have actually done think, and that is really important.”

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that uses an ultra-fine blade to create hair-like strokes to shape the eyebrows.
