THERE'S been a slight change in the schedule as audiences this week have the chance to sample live theatre in Denbigh for the first time in more than 18 months.

Denbigh Phoenix Players are back and the company is pleased to announce a double bill of one-act plays to be performed at Theatr Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh on November 18, 19 and 21.

Tickets are still available for Wednesday and Saturday, but there are no tickets left for Thursday's staging.

There is a 7.30pm start for each of the nights.

A Phoenix Players spokesman said: "Covid regulations are in place and face masks are required unless exempted.

"We want to keep you and ourselves safe so we would please, respectfully, request that you wear face masks when moving about the theatre.

"All seats and door handles are sanitised in between performances and hand gel sanitisation is required on entry.

"Social distancing is in place with seating."

The first play - “Canary” - was the winner of the CCTA best new writing award this year.

It is a dramatic satire set in 2022.

A widowed man and his extended family encounter some of the effects of climate change first-hand.

Set in the North West of England, it reflects how an ordinary working class family cope and adapt to water and power shortages, reduced employment opportunities and the conflicts this creates.

Written by Mike van der Eijk, a member of Phoenix Players, it anticipates some events and offers a thought provoking look at climate change with the occasional touch of light humour.

The second play is "The Worst Day of my Life", by Alan Richardson.

It is a hospital-based comedy set in a hospital room where Charlie Brown is the patient.

Life is comfortable for Charlie and he has his visitor schedules well worked out until his visitors independently decide to break from the schedule.

Life becomes problematic when a second visitor arrives while his first wife is visiting.

If this wasn’t bad enough a more visitors turns up to join them... and that isn’t the end of Charlie’s bad luck!

A good laugh is guaranteed as Charlie tries to deal with "The Worst Day of My Life".

Tickets are priced at £5 and advance booking is required.
