DINBYCH outscored hosts Dolgellau by three-tries-to-one, but they were still defeated in their opening WRU League Division One (North) contest of the season.

It was Dolgellau who managed to come out on top by a 22-15 margin, leaving Dinbych with only a losing bonus point to show for their efforts.

Dolgellau used their dominance in both territory and possession to put Dinbych under pressure throughout, leading to the visitors conceding kickable penalties as well as being depleted by two sin binning periods.

With limited possession, Dinbych showed their attacking potential with two excellent long-range tries, both finished in style by the electric running of right wing Huw Mars Jones which gave them a 10-9 lead at half-time.

They also showed their character by responding to Dolgellau’s only try late in the second half, with flanker Dafydd Evans scoring the final try from short range in the closing minutes after good work by the forwards.

It was the Blues who managed to win the match of the day in Division One (North).

Just a few weeks after losing 19-10 to Bala in the North Wales Cup, Ruthin gained ample revenge to defeat the lads from Maes Gwyniad 20-7 in their league clash.

Tries from Matthew Rogers and Ryan Griffiths helped Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant to a 12-5 Division Four (North) victory at Bala seconds.

RGC ended Newport’s six-game winning streak in the WRU Premiership Cup as an impressive second-half defensive performance under the Saturday night floodlights saw them triumph 34-28.

The opening 20 minutes saw a fast, open pace as both sides looked to spread the ball wide.

RGC claimed the lead after only three minutes with Pedr Jones powering over the line and Dion Jones added the extras.

Dion Jones' penalty extended the lead, before Newport began to get a foothold in the game and Matthew Powell went in for a score.

Matt O’Brien converted to close the gap to three points.

The home side took the lead on the half-hour when O’Brien scored and converted his own try.

It was RGC’s turn to use the width of the field to score, after the pack went through five phases before shifting the ball wide and Afon Bagshaw set up winger Zac Clow for the try.

Dion Jones hit the extras.

As the clock ticked down to half-time, it was Newport that claimed the lead again after Rhodri Jones scored and O’Brien struck a successful conversion.

Number eight Ben Roach extended Newport's lead with a try in the second half, with O'Brien converting.

Back came RGC and Tom Hughes' try was converted by Sam Rogers.

After a Newport yellow card, Joe Simpson claimed the next RGC score.

Sam Rogers nudged the conversion over and it was a 31-28 lead.

Rogers then sealed the deal with a late penalty.
