A POLICE officer was assaulted during an incident involving off-road bikers on Towyn promenade.

North Wales Police said the assault took place after the officer was called to reports over the group of bikers near Golden Sands Caravan Park on Friday night.

The force has launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: “An officer was called to reports of a number of individuals on off road bikes congregated around Towyn Prom, to the rear of Golden Sands Caravan Park. It is thought they were present at the location between 7pm and 9pm.

“The officer was assaulted at the scene and has sustained injuries.”

Detective sergeant Taylor-Jones said: “We come to work to serve and protect the public - every day we deal with very difficult and challenging situations, putting ourselves in harm’s way to uphold the law and protect the public.

“We must be able to carry out our duties as safely as possible - being assaulted is not and should never be regarded as ‘part of the job’.

“We’d appeal to members of the community to come forward with any information they may have about this incident.”
