A SPONSORED walk in aid of a hospice based in St Asaph will take place on Saturday (September 4), marking its 10th anniversary in doing so.

The six-mile Dawn Walk will raise money for St Kentigern Hospice, a charity providing care and support for patients with any life-limiting condition and their families.

This year, the walk will start at 6am from St Asaph Cathedral. Entry is open to all aged ten or older, with dogs on leads also welcome.

Entry is £25 for adults and £12 for children (aged ten to 18). Participants will also receive a limited edition Dawn Walk t-shirt, a complimentary bacon sandwich on the day and a medal on completion of the walk.

Nanw Hampson, a student who designed the limited edition tenth anniversary Dawn Walk t-shirt, and her mother Ffion have been strong supporters of St Kentigern Hospice.

Ffion explained why St Kentigern Hospice is so important to her and her family, saying: “Most people associate St Kentigern Hospice with end of life care. However, myself and my sister will be forever grateful for the invaluable emotional and physical support given to our dad during his final years.

“Our dad was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a life-limiting illness, some years ago. This illness presented him with daily challenges, but he was determined to continue to live life to the full and remain independent.

“He would visit St Kentigern weekly and this provided him with the opportunity to talk, to meet others who faced similar struggles, and to receive much-needed reassurance.

“Following nearly four months in hospital, our dad sadly lost his battle in May 2020.”

More than 100 people have registered for this year’s Dawn Walk already, which is St Kentigern Hospice’s first in-person event since March 2020.

People are reminded not to attend the event if they have any COVID-19 symptoms.
