A SEAL was mistaken for an 'object' in the water by a eagle eyed member of the public.

The 'object' was spotted near to Barkby beach, Prestatyn.

Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team posted on Facebook on August 25: "Busy afternoon for the team in the hot sunshine.

"An eagle eyed member of the public saw an object in the water near to Barkby beach, Prestatyn and did the right thing dialling 999 asking for the Coastguard. Officers made their way to the location and found the object to be a seal enjoying a spot of fishing.

"No sooner had we prepared to return to the station we were asked by North Wales Police to assist with a search in the Prestatyn beach area.

"We along with Flint Coastguard Rescue Team and the HGC Uned Drôn / NWP Drone Unit completed the search as requested and stood down soon after.

"Great example of partnership working."

Flint Coastguard Rescue Team posted on Facebook: "Team tasked along with Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team to assist North Wales Police in a missing person search in the vicinity of Prestatyn.

"On scene our area of search was given and after being fully saturated by both teams and officers from HGC Uned Drôn / NWP Drone Unit and nothing found.

"Team were stood down."
