CPD Y Rhyl 1879 welcomed newly formed side Rhyl Dragons FC to Belle Vue in the JD Welsh Cup as both teams played their first ever competitive fixture.

The lilywhites were dominant from the off as tier four promotion favourites, showing their strength against against the newly formed tier five Dragons.

Carl Lamb struck in only the second minute capitalising on a parry from the visiting goalkeeper to slot neatly in the goal.

Two minutes later the ball dropped to Michael Walsh on the edge of the penalty area, and he calmly found the top right corner making it 2-0 to the home side.

The eighth minute saw striker Lamb strike again after a mistake from the visiting goalkeeper which led to a simple opportunity to bundle the ball over the goal line.

Minutes later Lamb was at it again as he secured a ten-minute hat-trick after a great save from the goalkeeper pushing his header on to the crossbar where he followed up to slot the rebound into the net. Ten minutes played 4-0.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 continued to show their dominance and after thirteen minutes Macauley Taylor was felled just inside the area, and the referee pointed to the spot. Taylor then stepped up to fire the penalty into the bottom right corner making it 5-0.

The 23rd minute saw a delightful cross from central midfielder Dan Sim leading to a fine header into the bottom right corner by Carl Lamb taking his goal tally for the game to four.

In the 35th, a scramble in the penalty area resulted in the lilywhites captain Reece Fairhurst lash the ball past the visiting goalkeeper.

A heavy challenge on Macauley Taylor which not only ended his evening and led to him leaving the pitch on a stretcher with a visit to hospital to assess the potential ankle break. The home side went into half time break with an unassailable 7-0 lead.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 came out sprightly again for the second half, and in minute 49 right wing back Chris Bennett capitalized on a mistake from the visiting goalkeeper and forced the ball over the line making it 8-0.

With 56 minutes played Elliot Evans found himself in space after a goalkeeper parry to slot the ball home to make it 9-0.

In the 65th minute Carl Lamb secured his fifth goal of the game with an excellent slotted finish, after some great work by Eamon Buhalfaia in the build-up, taking the goal tally to 10-0.

A sombre last twenty minutes ensured that the game ended with the home side moving into the next round of the JD Welsh cup after an emphatic 10-0 victory however the dominant lilywhites ended the game with 9 players following a raft of injuries during the game.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 manager Gareth Thomas said: “The best thing to come out of the game was the result and a clean sheet however, our thoughts are focused on Macauley Taylor and Michael Walsh after picking up two serious injuries.
