WHALLEY C.E PRIMARY SCHOOL in Ribble Valley has spoken out after vandals trashed one of their outdoor areas.
The Forest School area was created to enhance the learning of pupils at the school, allowing them to spend time in nature, learn to care for the environment and also learn how to build dens and climb trees.
However, vandals took it upon themselves to damage and trash this area over the half term break; according to the school, this is not the first time the area has been vandalised.
Posting to Facebook, the school wrote: “We are deeply saddened to share, that over the half term, once again our Forest School area has been vandalised.
“Not only is it upsetting that the area is being spoilt for the children who use it, but the financial and time cost implications to the staff who have put so much into developing the space, it is becoming very disheartening.
“Those staff are beginning to take it a little personally that something developed for the education and benefit of the children can be attacked in this way.”
Currently, there aren’t any cameras on site- but a spokesperson for the school wrote that they are “soon to be installed.”
The school added: “We ask that the community of Whalley help to keep an eye out and report any unauthorised activity to either the school or local police.”
The school also posted pictures of some of the vandalism that took place; the pictures show broken objects scattered around the area.
At the time of writing, the social media post has received 84 interactions and 27 shares.
People have also taken the comment section to offer messages of support to the school.
One person wrote: “Heart-breaking... unfortunately cameras are needed badly in Whalley at the moment, too many things happening.
“Hope the culprits are caught.”
“This is absolutely terrible,” said another. “It must be so demoralising for all those who have spent so much time, effort and hard work making this forest school such a fabulous and positive experience for the children who I know love and enjoy it.”
Whalley School declined to comment on the situation.
