THE Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group held its annual AGM recently and strengthened the organisation by announcing several significant appointments.

The group, which was formed in 2012, has gone from strength to strength and has won much praise recently for the impact it has made supporting people in the community who have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, or think they may have symptoms.

It is a self-support group based on a model in operation at Christies Cancer Hospital at Manchester whereby members openly share their experiences of being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and how they are coping with their recovery along the treatment journey.

"Professor Iqbal Shergill, Senior Consultant Urological Surgeon at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, is a driving force behind the group and accepted the position of President.

Sandie Jones, who was a founder member of the group when she held the post of an advanced nurse practitioner in the urology department at Wrexham, has accepted the role of patron with her former colleague McMillan Urology nurse Jennifer Jones becoming a life member.

Underpinning the work of the organisation is a Steering Group which helps plot the strategical direction of the group.

To strengthen the current team, Buckley-based Ted Capstick was co-opted onto the group.
