ST ASAPH CITY Football Club is continuing the impressive progress it has been making both on and off the field by unveiling its new main stand.

In February 2020, the club’s chances of reaching tier three was cast into doubt after the city was hit by severe flooding, damaging their Roe Plas Meadow home ground’s playing surface, as well as the clubhouse.

The flood caused significant damage to both changing rooms, kitchen and the storage room. The Roe Plas pitch was also effected with debris from the floods causing significant damage to the grass as well as leaving tonnes of material to remove.

But, over the last year-and-a-half or so, loyal volunteers have been working tirelessly to improve the club’s facilities in order to meet the tier three ground criteria set out by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

As a result of that hard work and following the re-structuring of the Welsh pyramid system, the former Welsh Alliance One club is now set to play in the newly-formed tier three, Ardal North West League, for the 21/22 campaign.

There, City - led by manager Daniel Brewerton - will play against the likes of Denbigh Town, Llanrwst United, Porthmadog and Mold Alexandra in what will no doubt be a tough division.

St Asaph City FC’s new 100-seater main stand, sponsored by Salisburys Accountants of St Asaph, was unveiled on Wednesday, June 2.

Salisbury’s Aled Roberts and St Asaph City FC club president Trefor Jones were on hand to officially unveil it that day.

Club chairman John Roberts said: "The stand has been up for about 12 months, but we haven't been able to officially unveil it due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

"A big thanks must go to Salisbury for sponsoring the stand and also to the St Asaph community who supported us financially and in spirit.

"It's part of ongoing developments here at the club and hopefully we will get to see it being used very soon."

They may have reached the heights of tier three now, but the hard work certainly hasn’t stopped at St Asaph City FC.

The pitch itself at Roe Plas Meadow is in top condition thanks to 360 Groundcare and the club is also looking to appoint ‘someone with a passion for filming’ who can record its first team’s matches next season.
