RHUDDLAN Dementia Group are running a number of events in June and July.

The group is hoping to raise awareness and demonstrate to people that anyone with the illness can still live well.

Cllr Arwel Roberts, the group’s chairman, said: "It is a big shame that people don’t know enough about dementia. This can give the illness a big stigma which means that people living with dementia or memory issues won’t share their problems and their needs with others.

"It’s so important for more people to get to know what our group can do and to get involved in our various activities”.

The following activities are running:

  • Every Monday afternoon (except Bank Holidays) – Sit and Be Fit Sessions – 1pm until 2.30pm in the community centre – no charge to attend but donations towards the work of the Dementia Group are welcomed.
  • Friday, June 25 – a cycle ride from the Community Centre to St Asaph, the Hub at Rhyl harbour and return to Rhuddlan – starts at 10am. All levels of cyclists are welcome.
  • Saturday, June 26 – a Memory/Wellbeing Walk – from the Community Centre at 10.30am – down to the Nature Reserve and return with teas/coffees on offer, free of charge. One of the officers from Denbighshire County Council’s Countryside Team will give a short guided-tour and will also explain about the Dementia Friendly Sensory Area that is being constructed this year.
  • Saturday, June 26 – a “Come and Meet Us” afternoon in the Community Centre from 1pm until 4pm. A range of information about dementia and the various support organisations will be available. It is hoped that a number of organisations that are working to become dementia friendly will be at the session.
  • Saturday, July 3 – Tea, coffee and cake in Arwel and Awen’s garden from 10.30am until noon. £2.50 per person. Proceeds to the Dementia Group.
