THERE has been a change at the top at Rhuddlan Town Council.

Cllr Mike Elgin has taken over the role of mayor; retiring mayor cllr Arwel Roberts had spent two years in the position.

Cllr Elgin grew up in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd near Ruthin and attended school at Llanfair DC Primary and Brynhyfryd Comprehensive. At 18 he went on to join the Metropolitan Police in London being based in the West End - Vine Street.

After serving in the Met for eight years he transferred to North Wales Police and served mainly as a detective officer in Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and St Asaph CID offices.

In 2018 he retired after a total of 37 years police service and now helps his wife - Marianne run her holiday accommodation business and cares full time for his mother.

A spokesperson for Rhuddlan Town Council said: "Cllr Mike Elgin was installed as mayor on May 13. He expressed his thanks to all the town councillors for their trust in him and thanked cllr Arwel Roberts retiring mayor for his dedication and hard work during his two years in office."

Cllr Elgin moved to live in Rhuddlan in 2006.

Since 2018 he has been a councillor on Rhuddlan Town Council and a governor at Ysgol Y Castell.

He is also an active member of Rhuddlan Dementia Friendly group.

In his leisure time, cllr Elgin enjoys Crown Green Bowls at Club Bowlio Rhuddlan and Beach match fishing around the North Wales Coast.

Cllr Elgin, who enjoy bowls, has chosen two good causes for which he wishes to raise money for: The Royal British Legion and St Kentigern Hospice in St Asaph.
