A NEW discount store selling everything for a £1 and under has opened in Rhyl.

About 30 jobs have been created with the opening of One Below.

Created by the original founders of national chain Poundworld, One Below occupies the former Poundworld Plus store at Marina Quay Retail Park, Wellington Road, which is owned by Scarborough Development Group (SDG).

Christopher Edwards, 37, managing director at One Below, said at the opening on Friday (May 28): “It’s wonderful to see a return to normality with our socially-distanced queue at Marina Quay Retail Park today.

"We’d like to thank Rhyl shoppers for the welcome and for coming down to take advantage of the special offers that are running for opening week.

"We look forward to providing consistent low prices and amazing value to the local community in the future.

“Now more than ever, when times are financially tighter for so many families, we are proud to be offering incredible savings on hundreds of branded shopping essentials and on-trend items all for £1 or less," Mr Edwards added.

“It’s great to be able to occupy this space at the Retail Park, offering convenient value shopping for Rhyl locals. When other retailers on the high street are closing, we’re delighted to be able to create new retail jobs in the area.

“Almost 50 per cent of our team are ex-Poundworld employees who lost their role when Poundworld went in to administration three years ago.”

In a boost to the local economy, the new and fast-growing bargain retailer has invested a six-figure sum in the opening of the store.

One Below sells more than 5,000 items for £1 or less.

The fresh up-and-coming discount chain has previously opened stores across the UK to queues of shoppers looking to bag a haul of bargains, thanks to its unique savings and product offering.

One Below offers items across 10 departments including essential cleaning, groceries, medical, home, pet care, health and beauty and DIY. The store also stocks a range of gardening, kids toys and summer items.

Since One Below’s launch two years ago, the independent retailer has opened 70 stores UK wide with plans for further expansion in 2021.

Jack Abou-Jaoude, development executive at SDG, said: “One Below is the latest in a list of retailers to open at Marina Quay during the pandemic and is a fantastic addition to what is a highly-successful Park.

“Marina Quay’s out of town location, with its larger, more spacious store formats and ample, free parking has made it an attractive proposition to both retailers and shoppers alike and, as a result, we only have two small kiosk units remaining, both of which are under offer.”
