VIPs, civic dignitaries and ex-servicemen and their families gathered on Rhyl’s seafront on Saturday to mark 100 years of the Royal British Legion.

Guests at the socially distanced outdoor ceremony at Rhyl War Memorial and Gardens on East Parade included Rhyl’s Mayor Ellie chard, Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies, newly elected MS for the Vale of Clwyd Gareth Davies, chair of Denbighshire County Council Meirick Lloyd Davies.

They were joined by parents of servicemen including Mr and Mrs Roberts who lost their son in 2015, plus Sonia Fleming and Charlton Taylor whose son Michael Taylor died in 2010.

Representatives from local branches of the army cadets and sea cadets also attended together with Brian Jones from the Rhyl Business Group.

Rev Chris Spencer led the service with a speech from Richard Kendrick, Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Rhyl Branch of the Royal British Legion, about the important work done by the RBL.

"Phoenix radio Wales recorded the service," said Mr Kendrick.

"Our wreath was laid by Jason Jilge (Rhyl veteran serviceman). Bugle player was Stuart Parry off the Rhyl Silver Band."

Along with local remembrance events marking RBL100 people were encouraged to go online to enjoy a series of live events including a livestream from the Cenotaph and flypast of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
