A FORMER royal engineer has reached the final of a competition to win one-to-one mentorship with property boss and self-made millionaire Steven Green.

Dan Williams, 40, of Rhyl entered The One, a BBC Apprentice style competition, which is being run by Mr Green, back in January.

On Sunday, Mr Williams will travel to Redcar for the final and pitch to a panel of celebrities on why he believes he should be #TheOne.

If he clinches the top place, Mr Green, who is the founder of the Property Investment Academy and featured in Channel 5's Rich House, Poor House, will offer guidance in the hope the winner can reach millionaire status.

Mr Williams, who has wife Claire and children Lola, 14, and Alfie, 10, said: "The competition has been a huge part of all my family’s life for the last three months but especially in the last week when we have been canvassing for votes in the local area.

"People will have seen us out there.

"It has been very intense. I’ve not done anything like this in the past."

Mr Williams first came across Mr Green last July.

Whilst watching him on tv, Mr Williams realised he recognised the professional speaker and decided to contact him.

"As the programme went on, I realised that I had actually served in the army with him," Mr Williams explained.

"I contacted him on Facebook and said 'listen, really well done on what you have achieved since leaving the army'. He has gone on to create a multi-million pound property investment academy.

"I said to him that I had always been interested in property and he asked me if I'd like to come up for some training. That was October last year.

"It is not only property that he teaches, but he teaches mindset training, so he gets people in the right mindset to take their business to where he thinks it should be.

"The first goal he set me, if you like, was to lose three stone and I did it.

"Then in January he created the competition called The One."

Mr Williams, who joined the army in 1997 [he was in the Royal engineers and left in 2007 before starting work at Warwick Chemicals in Mostyn], said the contests has involved a number of different stages. Some tasks have been in teams, others are individual challenges.

"At one point we were given £1,000 each to turn into as much money as we could in the space of three weeks," Mr Williams said, who still works for Warwick Chemicals.

My team won that section, we were the overall highest achievers during that week our team.

"The actual final runs this Sunday.

"It has been a lot of hard work and a lot of pressure on the family but we got there

"I’m the only Welsh person in the competition at this stage."

Mr Williams, who grew up in Mostyn before moving to Holywell and then after the army, returned to Prestatyn and Rhyl, has set up a property investing business called DCLA properties which stands for Dan, Claire, Lola Alfie - Mr Williams's family.

"My reason for doing this contest was obviously for a better life overall for myself and my family," Mr Williams said.

"I have a daughter who lives down in Devon and I think actually winning this will make seeing her an awful lot easier.

"I see her as much as I can at the moment with work commitments.

"But winning this... I think would make a huge difference to that, definitely

"The reason now I want to win so much is because of the loyal following I have. They have absolutely pulled tooth and nail to get me where I am at the minute and I want to do it for them."

The final is to be aired live on YouTube at 6pm and will involve a voting poll.
