PRIME Minister Boris Johnson visited Prestatyn on Monday afternoon in a bid to turn up the heat in the Senedd election.

Mr Johnson joined Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies on his campaign trail ahead of the Welsh Government election on May 6.

It was a hot and sunny day as pub gardens reopened across Wales and crowds failed to follow social distancing rules as they surrounded the PM while he visited businesses and spoke to residents on Prestatyn High Street.

Mr Johnson was pictured drinking a pint ordered from The Hideaway and he bought items of cheese from the Little Cheesemonger.

Jemma Williams, Little Cheesemonger owner, said: "It was a complete surprise. I was looking out the window and thinking, ‘what’s everybody looking at?’, and then I saw his hair and knew who it was.

“He came in and had a quick look around and tried some cheese, and then he bought some Hafod cheddar and Teifi cheese, which we recommended.

“I’m still in a bit of shock; I never would have thought that on a normal Monday the Prime Minister would be coming.”

Tim Williams, owner of Bon Designerwear and organiser of the Prestatyn Classic Car Show, spoke with the PM under the shopfront canopy, said: “It was a complete surprise. There was quite a buzz in the town but I had no idea it would be the Prime Minister coming.

“It was a great honour to meet a Prime Minister, no matter what party you are in. It isn’t everyday that you get the Prime Minister visiting a small town.”

On the campaign trail, Mr Johnson travelled to Wrexham earlier in the day, where he discarded claims over his inflammatory remarks about a third lockdown as “total, total rubbish,” and later went to Llandudno, where he had an ice cream on the promenade.
