AN AIR ambulance has been called to a crash involving an ambulance vehicle on the A470 near Dolgellau.

The incident, involving two vehicles, one of which was a Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) non-emergency patient transport vehicle, took place just after 1pm on Thursday, April 8.

North Wales Police shut the road between Dolgellau and Llanelltyd as WAS crews attended the scene.

Mark Harris, WAS assistant director of operations for the non-emergency patient transport service, said: “Shortly after 1pm this afternoon, one of our non-emergency patient transport service vehicles was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the A470 near Talrafon, Dolgellau.

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, where crews were supported by emergency medical retrieval and transfer service colleagues in a Wales Air Ambulance.

“Our thoughts are with all involved in the collision, and we are now working with colleagues at North Wales Police to establish exactly what happened.”

The road has remained closed for hours and motorists have been urged to avoid the area.

North Wales Police tweeted: "Please be aware that the A470 between Dolgellau and Llanelltyd is currently closed following a road traffic collision.

"Please avoid the area."

Traffic Wales tweeted: "A470 between Llanelltyd and Dolgellau in both directions closed due to a collision. Emergency services are on scene.

"Please find alternative route."

Police have been approached for comment.
