A WOMAN in Meliden has been defrauded of more than £7,000 by a telephone scammer.

North Wales Police's Community Safety Central team tweeted that the resident, who lives on Manod Road, was told to download system cleaning software on her computer, which gave the scammer remote access.

A total of £7,200 was then taken from her bank account.

"A resident of Manod Road in Meliden has unfortunately fallen victim to fraud," police tweeted.

"She was contacting by someone on the phone. She was told to download system cleaning software.

"As her computer had been slow she gave remote access.

"£7,200 has now been cleared from her account."
