DISCOUNT retailer B&M Bargains will open the doors of its new Rhyl store ahead of spring.

The variety store chain confirmed its new premises on Marina Quay will open on March 11 as part of a 10-year lease agreement with Scarborough Group International (SGI).

It is the latest opening at the £23m shopping park which has become home to popular stores including Aldi, Greggs, The Range, Farm Foods and Batch ice cream parlour since 2018.

“We can confirm that we will be opening a new store and garden centre in Rhyl at Marina Quay on Thursday, March 11," a B&M spokesperson said.

"This will be our second store in Rhyl and we’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of jobs for local people during these challenging times.”

A planning application for the 26,000 square foot premises including units two, three, four and five of building B on the retail park was submitted to Denbighshire County Council in November.

It is the last remaining large format unit at the retail park.

The move comes as B&M Bargains plans to open up to 45 stores this financial year after lifting its profit target on the back of surging sales.

The retailer's knockdown prices and spacious stores helped to drive customer traffic during lockdown.

Jack Abou-Jaoude, development executive of SGI, said: “In stark contrast to the national headlines, footfall and trading performance for most of the businesses at Marina Quay has remained strong over the past 12 months, with many of the occupiers falling into the essential retail category.

“B&M will be fantastic addition to the park and, with the remaining units attracting a great deal of interest, we’re confident that it will be fully let in the not-too-distant future.”

There are three units of between 1,500 and 6,000 sq ft remaining on the park.

SGI's outline consent provides for a future phase comprising up to 20,000 sq ft of retail space, which the developer said it will review once the scheme is fully let.
