A “not fit for purpose” former hotel will be razed to the ground and rebuilt as 10 “modern, high standard” apartments for rent – if planners give the green light.

David Skeffington of Skeffington Properties has applied to  redevelop the Braga Hotel on East Parade, Rhyl, into six two-bed and four one-bed flats.

The design and access statement claims the property is “not fit for purpose” in its current condition and will be demolished to make way for the new building with gardens.

The new-build promises to be “modern” and finished to a “high standard” and let through Skeffington Properties.

A submission from agent Hannah James Associates Ltd said there will be four parking spaces integral to the development.

It added: “It is considered the landlord will be purchasing local authority parking badges as part of the rental agreement for the Library car park to the rear.

“The development will be in line with Denbighshire county council’s corporate aim to regenerate the Rhyl town centre area and try to create higher quality town centre living.”

The applicant held a pre-application consultation online and contacted 28 nearby properties about the plans.

No comments were received from Rhyl town council or local county councillors regarding the proposed scheme.

The application will be decided at a future full planning committee but members of the public can still comment on the proposal through the county council’s planning portal on its website using reference 45/2020/0858.
