IT looks as if the cold weather will stay with us as we head into the New Year as the Met Office forecasts three days of weather warnings.

Warnings for snow and ice have blanketed Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire for the next three days,

Yellow alerts are already in place for much of the North Wales region today (December 29) for icy conditions and will come into force from 6pm this evening until 10am the following day (December 30).

Hours after the icy warning clears, another warning comes into effect.

The Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire areas all narrowly make it into the zone that will see a warning for snow. This kicks in at 6pm on December 30 and runs right through to 2pm on New Year’s Eve (December 31).

Speking on Tuesday, Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen said; “The snow currently affecting parts of the Midlands will die out this afternoon. However, northerly winds will bring further rain, sleet and snow across parts of Northern Ireland as well as northern and western Scotland today (Tuesday) and Wednesday.

“Most of the snow that settles is likely to be over higher ground.

“An Atlantic frontal system looks likely to bring a mixture of rain, sleet and snow to parts of southern England and south Wales on Wednesday, but the extent of any snow is very uncertain.

“There is then a risk of further snow moving south across Scotland, northern England and the Midlands on Thursday.”
