KIND fundraisers have rushed to the aid of a second elderly lady who had her jewellery box 'completely emptied' following a break-in.

Val Keates, 78, of Tarquin Drive, Rhyl, was targeted by a heartless burglar(s) earlier this week.

The cruel incident happened just days after Doris Copeland became a victim; The 82-year-old dozed off late on Friday afternoon (December 18) and woke up to find her handbag had been moved.

The thief made off with treasured jewellery and £250 in cash.

Daughter Liza said her mum Val had been out of the house for a short period of time when the burglary happened.

"My mum went out and she is quite routine with the way that she goes out," Liza explained.

"I think they have looked. She left her bedroom window, it is a small, slant window, so they have put their arm through the window to open the side one and then crawled through the side one.

"They have taken all of her jewellery. She had a tv in the window, she couldn't see it properly, so she has brought this second hand tiny new safe box. She noticed that something had happened as the tv was on the floor.

"They have picked up the safe and they have shook it. But there was nothing in the safe she just used it as a tv stand.

"Her jewellery box next to her bed is completely empty. She had a couple of little jewellery cardboard boxes that had the earrings in, they've all gone. The only jewellery she has got left is what she was wearing that day.

"She went out about 11am / 11.30am and came about about 1pm / 1.30pm."

Val has been left shaken and Liza worries it is a set back for her mum.

"She didn't sleep the first night," Liza added.

"But the crime prevention officer on Facebook [Chris]... bless him, he came round on the second day and gave mum two of those window alarms."

Liza said Val has installed and has had extra safety / security measures put in place.

"Hopefully she doesn't dwell on the incident and doesn't go backwards," Lisa said.

"We are all trying to keep her motivated."

Val has lived in Rhyl for about 50 years. She is originally from Liverpool.

Steve Evans, founder of Belief, paid a visit to Val and Liza following the upsetting break in.

He said: "Within hours of visiting Doris, we heard of another lovely local pensioner having her home broken into.

"Along with my wife Dawn and Yvette Green from Belief, we visited Val Keates and presented her with flowers and chocolates and Belief will pay for the excess on her home insurance.

"Another vile and disgusting act of cruelty inflicted on one of our pensioners has once again sickened us.

"What is wrong with these sick thieving individuals?"

Commenting on the kind act, Liza said: "My mum was near enough in tears when they turned up.

"She really was... you don't know how much she appreciated it. There are some lovely people out there. She said 'you've made my day'

"That act of kindness, goes a long way."

North Wales Police are appealing for information.

The force's Community Safety Central tweeted on Tuesday, December 22: "We have had further reports of burglary's happening in Rhyl

"An address on Marsh Road was burgled over the weekend and yesterday a resident of Tarquin Drive was burgled.

"Both victims were elderly and lived alone."

Anyone with information should telephone police on 101.
