A FAMILY is making a heart-breaking plea to help their seven-month old puppy who has broken both her legs.

Leia, a French Bulldog, has broken both of her legs in the space of two weeks.

Owner Rachel Davies, from Connah’s Quay, said the past few months have been ‘one nightmare’ after the other.

She told the Leader: “We bought Leia during the lockdown. We were meant to be going on holiday and it got cancelled and my husband was furloughed so to cheer us all up we decided to get a puppy.

“She was in the garden and suddenly started screaming, we think she jumped up to get a bird or something.

“We rushed her to the vets and they said it would be £2,500 to fix it or with it being only the one leg, if we left it then it would heal.

“We left it to see how she got on but then she broke the other leg after jumping off the settee.”

Rachel said the family were having issues with the insurance and whether the costs would cover the vet bills.

She added: “She went to the animal hospital who allowed us to pay the deposit for the treatment of both legs and set up a payment plan over a year.

“But a week after the operation she started screaming again as the screw had started to come out so she had to go in for another operation which added to the costs.

“We knew the treatment would be costly but this is just what you need this close to Christmas and my husband has only just recently gone back to work after being furloughed.

“I’m trying to work as much as I can but it’s a nightmare. She went back in for an X-Ray and was walking fine, recovering amazing but then they found that the pins in her other leg had started to snap.

“We are petrified. She’s such a lovely dog and has already been through so much for just seven-months old.

“I’ve never set up a fundraising page before but I don’t know what else to do. We are at the end of our tether. We can’t get a loan, we’ve tried and my dad has been laid off work and my husband’s dog is a pensioner.

“We aren’t asking for the full amount because it comes up to £5,000, just a little bit of help towards it. Every little helps.”
