DENBIGH and District Round Table is keen to ensure residents that Christmas is not cancelled in the town this year.
Despite the Coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to the majority of annual events across North Wales, Denbigh’s festive float, organised by the round table, will still be making an appearance.
Santa will be keeping his social distance as he takes his sleigh around Denbigh and the surrounding villages from December 1.
Despite the COVID restrictions, the float will be travelling along the usual routes albeit with a few changes to the proceedings to keep everyone safe.
The club’s float organiser, David Taylor, explained that it won’t be possible for the elves to knock on people’s doors to notify them of Father Christmas approaching or to collect donations for charity as usual.
Instead, whenever possible, the float will be preceded by a car playing music to announce the imminent arrival of Father Christmas.
Mr Taylor said: “Residents are encouraged to visit the Denbigh and District Round Table Facebook page where regular updates will be posted and a live tracker will also be found which will track the float’s progress each night.
“Unfortunately, due to the need to keep Father Christmas safe, he won’t be able to stop to speak to children or hand out sweets or accept letters from them. But, he will be delighted to wave to children and parents are requested that all remain on their property to wave back to Father Christmas."
Denbigh and District Round Table raised and distributed approximately £14,000 last year, with the recipients of the funds including the following worthy causes: Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn, Shelter Cymru, Capel y Waen Day Care, St Kentigern’s Hospice, Cae Dai Trust, Denbigh Aged and Disabled Fund, King’s Garden Enterprise, Cystic Fibrosis and Prostate Cancer charities.
Denbigh and District Round Table are keen to allow members of the public to continue to donate much needed money for distribution to local charities and good causes and have therefore set up a text donation service to allow this to take place in a safe way.
Donations can be made by texting HOHO5 to 70085 to donate £5 (or change the 5 after the HOHO to any number to donate that amount) or by hitting the donate button on the Denbigh and District Round Table Facebook page.
