Police are appealing for information after trees were cut down to make a camp fire in a forest near Newtown.
Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police's Rural Crime Team slammed the behaviour of those responsible for the incident at Ceri Forest as "totally irresponsible".
Ceri Forest, a conifer plantation that is looked after by Natural Resources Wales, is located along the ancient Kerry Ridgeway.
Mid and West Wales Fire Service Arson Reduction Team said campfires in forests are illegal.
"They are illegal for a reason. Please don't have campfires in forests."
The force's Rural Crime Team said on Twitter: "Patrols in the Ceri Forest, Sarn Hills car park area today, trees have been cut in order to make what appears to be camp fire.
"This is totally irresponsible behaviour, which has the potential to cause devastating damage to the forest."
Anyone with information is urged to call 101.
