A DENBIGHSHIRE firm recently received a new drilling rig which will radically change the way boreholes for water supplies and ground source heating systems are drilled.

Corwen-based Dragon Drilling has received A Rotomax drilling rig, which is manufactured in Germany and is the first of its type to be brought into the UK.

Immensely powerful, it is capable of drilling down to a depth of 340m.

Dragon Drilling finance director, Andrea Ellison said: "Our objective is to maintain our position as one of the leading environmental drilling companies in the UK, committed to the expansion of the renewable energy sector as we head towards the Governments carbon neutrality targets.

"The financial investment in the new drilling rig is considerable and this is the first of five rigs that we have ordered.”

"The new rig will increase our fleet to ten drilling rigs in the environmental sector for the sustainable utilisation of renewable resources. This includes boreholes for heat and water for commercial, agricultural and domestic applications as well as the extraction of the greenhouse gas methane for electricity generation.

"The order book for the rig is fully committed until June next year and will provide employment for three extra full time staff. By investing in new equipment we are able to offer new technical job opportunities for people in the local area and further strengthen our relationship with local suppliers.”
