A PIECE of eye-catching artwork has been installed at a Prestatyn Retail Park, with the aim of drawing more customers to the town’s High Street.

Prestatyn Business Forum chair Hal Holmes-Pierce, who also runs the ‘Elevate Your Sole’ shop in the town, put forward the idea for the project, which led to ‘overwhelming’ support from members of the public.

Local artist Claire Holliday designed and painted the vibrant depiction of Prestatyn High Street, which includes several of its residents.

Sally Smart, Secretary from the Business Forum and owner of ‘Blue Bug Photography’ secured the funding from Prestatyn Town Council, as well as fund from the Prestatyn Business Forum itself, while local businesses also paid for sponsorship.

Sally said: “In all, 18 local business took up the opportunity to have their name running alongside the artwork, promoting themselves and funding the maintenance of the board, which was originally erected by Scottish Power free of charge.

“Moving forward, every two years there will be an opportunity for businesses to renew their sponsorship and a chance to allow new businesses to be included.”

Between rain showers on Sunday Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies and Prestatyn Mayor Tony Flynn joined artist Claire, Sally and Hal (and his daughter Evelyn) at the unveiling.

Also present were Prestatyn Business Forum member Jo Goddard and her son Daniel and fellow Forum members Tina Jones MBE, and Anton Sampson and Kate Thew on behalf of Prestatyn Town Council.
