PRESTATYN Rotarians have raised money to support a food bank.

Prestatyn Rotary Club used to enjoy a weekly meeting and a meal at The Beaches Hotel. However, lockdown Zoom meetings are now the order of the day, and in lieu of the cost of their meal, members are donating money for the Prestatyn and Meliden foodbank.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Rotary President Martin Cotgreave handed £4,000 to Heather Norris who operates the foodbank from the Festival Church in Prestatyn with her dedicated team of volunteers.

“On receiving the latest socially distanced cheque, a delighted Heather explained that demand for the service increased dramatically following the lockdown in March.

“Even though the furlough scheme was welcome, some families were still struggling to make ends meet.”

Heather said demand has since increased again and thanked the rotary for their support as well as the public.

She said: “A cash donation such as this enables us to purchase other essential items that we don’t often receive through public donations or the Fareshare scheme.”

The Prestatyn and Meliden Foodbank runs from the Festival Church, 200 Victoria Road, Prestatyn, LL19 7TL.

They help families in the area and also liaise with other local foodbanks where needed.

There is a drop-off point at the church or contact 07722749773 or info@prestatynmeliden.foodbank.org.uk.

The rotary club also has a donation section on their website prestatyn.rotary1180.org

Prestatyn Rotarians hope that their Christmas float will be able to visit the area this December.

The foodbank will be one of the charities they will be collecting for.
