HUNDREDS of people have given messages of support and made donations in memory of a "marvellous" nurse and "NHS hero" who died near Wrexham Maelor Hospital where he worked last week.

Wilbert Catalanllobrera, 46, was struck by a car just before 8.30pm last Thursday.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of his Maelor colleagues, he died at the scene.

Elinor Smith and Ami Brown have set up the fundraiser on behalf of Mr Catalanllobrera's wife Fe and their daughter.

Elinor and Ami say on the page: "Our kind and caring Wilbert sadly passed away yesterday. He was a devoted husband and proud dad to his daughter, who have been left devastated by his passing. During these already difficult times with the family’s permission I have set up this go fund me page to help the family. This money will be given to the family to use in whichever way the feel they would like to use it.

"Wilbert was always full of life and so caring to his family, friends, colleagues and patients. He will be sadly missed by all."

The page has already raised more than £14,000.

Wilbert’s wife, Fe sent a message via the fundraisers.

She said: "Thank you for your love and support to Wilbert and to our family, I can’t thank everyone enough for their kindness and generosity, all the lovely and kind words to Wilbert, May God bless you and everyone in return."

Friends, colleagues, and people that did not know Wilbert have made donations and left tributes.

One colleague said: "Such a tragic and sad loss of a wonderful colleague. Wilbert was excellent in theatre. My deepest condolences to his wife, daughter and the Maelor family."

Another colleague said: “I will miss you in TH4 with your cheeky laugh and banter, a true gent with a heart of gold a pleasure to have worked alongside you, theatre was ever so quiet today sleep well up there and shine bright.”

Another message said: "Sending our sincere sympathies to Wilbert's family . We didn't know Wilbert, but he nursed a friend of ours, and so we know how kind and caring he was. Such a tragedy. He will be sadly missed."
