THE Football Association of Wales has announced big changes to the JD Cymru Premier schedule during the “fire-break” lockdown.
Following the Welsh Government’s decision to implement a nationwide lockdown similar to what was experienced earlier this year in a bid to prevent the rapid spread of Covid-19, the FAW confirmed that the ongoing return to football plan has now been suspended for this 17-day period.
However, clubs with a sufficient amount of professional players, coaches and operational staff in the JD Cymru Premier - as defined by the Welsh Government guidelines - will have their fixtures re-arranged to allow them to continue playing against each other.
Due to the suspension of the ‘elite programme’, the top-flight has postponed all matches involving non-professional clubs during this period, which also includes training.
All Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League matches and training sessions have also fallen victim to the postponements.
A FAW spokesman, said: “The FAW urges everyone to follow the Welsh Government guidelines during the firebreak lockdown to limit the spread of Covid-19.
“The FAW is currently seeking clarification from the Welsh Government on the level of restrictions that will be in place following the end of this lockdown period, in order to ascertain what football activity can resume from November 9.”
