A POPULAR discount store is set to open in Ruthin at the end of the month.
German discount retailer Aldi said it will open its store off the A525 on Thursday, October 29.
It includes a car park with 132 spaces and a newly-built bus stop.
The store received huge support from residents in the town during its consultation, backed by 92 per cent of participants. Ruthin currently has Tesco and Co-op stores, which residents said they find too expensive and have to travel to Denbigh or Mold.
Aldi said it will employ a total of 40 staff, who will be paid a minimum wage of £9.10 per hour, with additional on-site storage units expected to bring further employment to the town.
“We’re excited to bring an Aldi food store to serve the Ruthin community, improving shopping choice and creating new jobs for local people,” an Aldi spokesperson said.
Denbighshire County Council had marked the site for development for 17 years prior to the Aldi plan.
