THE North Wales business community has come together to raise £10,000 for Llandudno’s St David’s Hospice in a virtual quiz.

More than 50 quizzers from across North Wales gathered around their laptops for the North Wales Business Club (NWBC) virtual corporate quiz. St David’s Hospice provides end of life care to individual adults and support for families in North Wales.

The annual corporate test the team quiz was adapted to be in line with current Covid 19 guidelines and not held at its usual live night at Venue Cymru. So, the event took place online. Due to the restrictions Barclays were unable to produce the quiz this year, but sourced £3,000 of matched funding.

Sophie Morris, Managing Director of Worldspan, a member of the North Wales Business Club, produced a virtual quiz using her team at Worldspan to manage the technical side of the quiz.

Mel Herman, NWBC chairman said: “We continue to receive emails from telling us how much the evening was enjoyed. I had so much fun I can’t wait for next year’s event Despite the challenges the event faced, it was a resounding success raising £10,220 for the Hospice."

The closure of charity shops throughout lockdown and cancellation of fundraising events totalled a £1million loss for the charity. Community fundraising activities such as the NWBC quiz will help towards the Hospice’s Recovery Fund target, recouping the £1 million by the end of 2020.

St David’s Hospice Community Area Fundraiser, James Wilde said: “This pandemic has had a huge effect on the Hospice and fundraising. We are so grateful to everyone for supporting the virtual quiz. It was great everyone continued to support the event and rose to the challenge to raise much-needed funds and, of course, get to the top of the leader board.”
