AN 18 YEAR old Rhyl music student has landed a four song recording contract.

Betty Harper, of East Parade, said she had lacked confidence until she performed in gigs at Rhyl High School where she was a pupil. Now she is studying music at Yale College, Wrexham.

A Christmas present from her mother took her to a session in a Liverpool recording studio. The songs she sang were put on social media and sent to record producers.

One producer in London was interested and invited her to London to hear her sing and a contract to produce four records over a 12 months period followed.

Betty said: “Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be a singer, but I haven’t had the confidence to achieve this goal.

“In Rhyl High School I started doing gigs with friends, we did the Battle of the Bands and Records of Achievement in school. These two performances built my confidence.

"I am a ballad singer. I write and perform my own songs which reflect my views and feelings, they are chill and mellow. Now I am in Coleg Cambria Yale in Wrexham studying a music course.

“As a Christmas present my mum took me to a studio in Liverpool where, “We recorded four songs and they were uploaded to social media.

“In addition, my mother sent out the songs to record producers and we had a reply from a London one. He liked what he had heard and invited us down to London and we went last January. We were due to sign a contract for a year producing four songs of mine with him distributing my songs. This was stalled because of the lockdown.

"But we kept in contact and after lockdown ended, we visited him again. We have now signed a contract and I will work with him until next September.

"My tutor at college was pleased and agreed the songs I have written would become a component of my course.
